£5k raised for hospice hit by raids

Compton Hospice has reached nearly £5,000 in donations following a series of break-ins.

A recent donation of £2,000 has edged the charity closer to repairing the damage caused by raiders. Wolverhampton-based Tatton Hall Homes raised the cash following six break-ins at the charity’s shops in Wolverhampton, Codsall, Brierley Hill, Willenhall and Cannock.

Managing director Carl Tatton said: “As well as the damage caused these incidents are disrespectful to those who work in the shops and the kindness of people who donate to them. We hope our contribution will help.”

As well as taking a few hundred pounds the raiders also smashed windows, ripped doors from their hinges, tore down walls and destroyed CCTV systems.

A spokesperson for Compton Hospice said: “Thanks to everyone who has helped us get back on our feet and help us get through such a difficult time. “There was around £5,000 worth of damage caused and we’ve raised nearly £4,500 through donations. “We’ve also had a lot of support from the public reaching out to us and we’ve had over £2,000 in donations since the break-ins.”
